Dan D’Agostino, C.E.O. and Chief
Designer of Krell Industries, Inc., and a long-standing fan
of iPod devices, often wondered what it would be like to
design an interface dock built to Krell standards;
specifically targeted toward the owners of hi-end audio
systems and music enthusiasts alike. The result is the Krell
KID, or Krell Interface Dock.
The KID is the first product of
its kind to utilize the fully differential output of the
internal DAC for iPod-devices —unaltered or modified—to
deliver maximum sonic performance from this portable media.
A custom self-locating
top-loading cradle holds the iPod-device. The balanced
differential signal from the internal DAC is opto-isolated
between the device and the ultra- |
low noise 255-step custom-taper
volume control, ensuring the lowest possible noise or
interference. Digitally-controlled analog bass and
treble controls allow custom equalization of the source
material. A 1/8” stereo connector located on the front panel
of the KID is also direct wired to the volume control, for
connecting additional audio sources.
Balanced differential Class A
circuitry is maintained throughout the signal path and fed
to the balanced and single-ended outputs. Composite and
S-video outputs are offered as a video pass through for
stored video programming.
The KID can be operated via
RS-232 protocol and with the included full function remote
control.
